nerd out

I think I've met my match.

Turns out my nephew might just be a bigger nerd than me.

I'm headed to Norway soon to celebrate his birthday and we've got grand plans to eat our way through Scandinavia.

Yesterday he texted me a screenshot of his excel spreadsheet outlining our proposed daily itinerary.

Now I love a thorough color-coded spreadsheet. It's why I created Launch Brain.

But this kid has every 30 minutes marked off with a new activity.

I chortled at the hour-long detour at the local Ikea. He really wants to see if the meatballs taste the same abroad.

But before my nephew and I stuff ourselves silly with Copenhagen pastries (and yes, we're totally inspired by The Bear), I gotta geek out on a few more things ...

Here's what I'm nerding out about this week:

  1. Designing a new supplemental guide and graphic updates for the next launch of Talking Shrimp's Inbox Hero.*

An unexpected side benefit of designing for stellar clients? I get first access to their content. Laura's the person who taught me the art of email-based storytelling and her epic guide is a masterclass in how to inject life into your emails. I'm pretty proud of the text-based design that makes it easy to review and understand just how to transform your emails. Drops next week.

  2. Turns out my love language is automations. Today's my 18th (!) wedding anniversary. Zane and I celebrated by starting a brand new company together. Official docs and everything. More soon on what we're cooking up.

you've got this,
Michelle

p.p.s. If you've got Bergen, Copenhagen or Berlin recs, send 'em my way. The nephew wants to eat in a rotating TV tower / restaurant in Berlin, natch. I'm looking for non-revolving options.

Between the DMs from friends sharing stories of outrageously bad-behaving clients (shoutout to anyone who's dealing with customer support these days - people are WILD) and unintentionally getting myself into a petty social media spat (my WordPress friends will understand), it's one of those weeks where you wonder what the heck is going on with people. But a few much needed deep conversations reminded me of the good that comes out of regular human interaction (not to mention what you gain when...

Nothing drives me more nuts than the little things that slow you down. Like when I discovered this week in the middle of a design deadline that my keyboard shortcuts weren't working.I've been a web designer for almost 2 decades - these quick keys are ingrained in my head. Losing them meant I was moving at turtle pace. After a protracted youtube search, I discovered the fix. Turns out when I set up my new computer the other week I needed to change a system preference to turn on my function...

I'm pretty sure I think about benches more than the average person. My favorite running trail has an wobbly old wooden one, perched on top of a hill with killer unobstructed city river views. Every time I pass by, I think "that's a great spot for my ashes." Slightly morbid, but who wouldn't want an eternally great view with daily dog visitors? Anytime I see a bench with a commemorative plaque, I have to stop and read it. The other week as we hiked inside the DC Smithsonian Zoo (we're suckers...
